Subhash Ghai, the Bollywood director is known as `showman` in Bollywood film industry who has also produced many films.

Subhash Ghai, Indian Movie DirectorIndian movie director Subhash Ghai was born on January 24th 1945. His father was a dentist who practised in Delhi. Subhash did his higher secondary in Delhi and after completing his studies in Haryana, Subhash Ghai joined the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. After completing his filmmaking course he came to Mumbai to pursue his passion for movie direction.

Career of Subhash Ghai
Subhash Ghai started his career as a hero in the film `Umang` in 1970. Next he went on to act in many other movies like `Gumraah`, `Taqdeer` (1967), followed by `Aradhana` (1969). His directorial debut was `Kalicharan` in 1976 with his friend Shatrughan Sinha and the movie went on to become a super hit. Subhash`s next two movies were `Vishwanath` and `Gautam Govinda`. They did not fare well at the box office. In 1978 Subhash Ghai got married and formed his Company Mukta Arts Limited.

The first movie under his banner was `Karz` starring Rishi Kapoor. The movie got a super hit status. In 1982 Subhash Ghai directed `Vidhaata` with some of the biggest names in the industry, Dilip Kumar, Shammi Kapoor and Sanjeev Kumar. The movie was so appreciated by the audiences that it is regarded as one of the classics. Subhash Ghai became the indispensable part of the film industry and its Mukta Arts went on becoming popular with every release. His next movie `Hero` with Jackie Shroff was also a success at the box-office and so was `Meri Jung` which saw Anil Kapoor in the lead.

Subash Ghai was at the peak of his career and his next movie titled `Karma` saw Dilip Kumar, Naseeruddin Shah, Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor in the leads with Anupam Kher as the villain. The movie became a blockbuster hit at the box office. Subhash Ghai continued his successful journey with `Ram Lakhan`, `Saudagar`, `Khalnayak`, `Pardes` and `Taal`. In 2001, he launched `Yaadien` with Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor but this time his movie failed at the box-office and so did his next film `Kisna.`

Subhash Ghai has however been very successful as a Producer and he has also launched his Film Academy-`Whistling Woods`. He has produced many of the Nagesh Kukkunoor`s film and also helped many other directors. He has produced movies like `Aitraaz` (2004), `36 China Town` (2006), `Apna Sapna Money Money` (2006) `Iqbal` (2005) and many others. His institute also trains students in various aspects of film making like production, direction, cinematography, acting, animation etc. After a long break he directed two other movies, `Black & White` and `Yuvvraaj` which did not do well at the box office.

On a personal front Subhash Ghai is married to (Rehana Farooqui) Mukta Ghai after whom he named his company as `Mukta Arts`. He has two daughters.

Indian movie director Subhash Ghai is an award winning film director who has won filmfare awards in 1991 for `Saudagar`. He has also won the national award for his film `Karma`. In 1998 he won the Best Screenplay Award for the movie `Pardes.`
