Ranji Trophy, 2001-02, West Zone League Matches
The Mumbai, Baroda and Gujarat teams were the toppers in the West Zone and competed in the knock out level.

In the West Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 2001-02, 5 regular teams played against each other and the teams were hailing from the Western region of India. The teams included the likes of Mumbai, Baroda, Saurashtra, Gujarat and Maharashtra and most of them were representing various states from the Western region of India in the premium domestic cricket tournament of India. While playing in the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2001-02, the main objective of all the teams was to become one of the top teams in the zone. Securing a berth in the knock out level of the tournament was also another main objective of the teams. However, though all the teams tried their best, only the teams like Mumbai, Baroda and Gujarat eventually entered into the knock out level from the West Zone. The Mumbai, Baroda and Gujarat teams earned total of 23, 16 and 16 points, respectively, at the end of the zonal level league matches to do so from the zone.

The West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2001-02 started with the match between the teams of Mumbai and Maharashtra and the two teams played the match at Mumbai from 22-25 November, 2001. The Mumbai team started the tournament on a positive note by winning this match with a margin of 7 wickets and also earning 8 points from it. The Maharashtra team failed to earn any points from the match. The teams of Baroda and Gujarat played against each other in the second match of the zone and the match took place at Vadodara from 22-25 November, 2001. The Gujarat team won the closely contested match with a narrow margin of only 9 runs and earned 8 points. The Baroda team remained pointless in the match. The Baroda team appeared in the third match of the zone also and this time, it played against the Mumbai team at Vadodara from 29 November-02 December, 2001. The winner of the match was the Mumbai team with a margin of an innings and 141 runs to earn 8 points and the Baroda team failed to earn any points from the match.

The fourth of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2001-02 involved the teams like Saurashtra and Gujarat and the match was held at Rajkot from 29 November-02 December, 2001. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Saurashtra and Gujarat teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The Saurashtra team then played against the Baroda team in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Rajkot from 06-09 December, 2001. The match was won by the Baroda team with a margin of an innings and 184 runs and the team also earned 8 points from the match. However, the Saurashtra team could not earn even a single point from the match. The Gujarat and Maharashtra teams were involved in the next match of the zone and the match was held at Ahmedabad from 06-09 December, 2001. The drawn match saw the Gujarat and Maharashtra teams earning 5 and 3 points, respectively from it.

The Maharashtra team played against the Saurashtra team in the seventh of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2001-02 and the match took place at Pune from 30 December, 2001 - 02 January, 2002. The Maharashtra team earned 5 points and Saurashtra earned 3 points from the drawn match. The next match of the zone saw the teams of Gujarat and Mumbai playing against each other at Bulsar from 30 December, 2001 - 02 January, 2002. The Mumbai team got a convincing victory of 298 runs in the match for earning 8 points and the Gujarat team remained pointless in the match. The teams of Maharashtra and Baroda met with each other in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Pune from 05-08 January, 2002. The Baroda team earned 8 points from the match by clinching a victory of 6 wickets and the Maharashtra team failed to earn any points from the match. The last of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 2001-02 involved the teams like Mumbai and Saurashtra and the two teams played the match at Mumbai from 05-08 January, 2002. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Mumbai and Saurashtra teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match.
