The Kapoor Family is a family with a long legend in India`s Bollywood cinema. This family originally hailed from the city of Peshawar, British India of Punjabi origin. The family is primarily famous for their acting tradition and also their business chains.

Five generations of the Kapoor family have acted, directed or produced in the Bollywood industry. The dynasty starts with Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor right down to Ranbir Kapoor. This legacy in Indian film industry was founded by actor Prithviraj Kapoor, whose eldest son Raj Kapoor became a superstar in the Hindi film industry, and his two other sons Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor. Both of them became stars in their own right. Most members of the family have their own merits in fields like acting, producing or directing films and thus have had a major impact on Indian films.

All three of Prithviraj Kapoor`s sons became actors. However it is Raj Kapoor`s descendants who have carried on the family legacy of acting religiously. His sons, Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor went on to become well-known actors, however his youngest son Rajiv Kapoor was not that successful. Randhir Kapoor`s daughters Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor were successful in the film industry. Karishma has temporarily retired after marriage. Moreover, Rishi Kapoor`s son, Ranbir Kapoor made his debut appearance Sawwariya, released in 2007 opposite Sonam Kapoor, the daughter of Anil Kapoor, in Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s Saawariya.

The Members of the Kapoor Family are introduced according to their generations as following -

1st generation
Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor - He was the first recognized ancestor in this legendary Kapoor family. He was the son of Dewan Keshavmal Kapoor and also a retired policeman. He made a cameo in his grandson Raj Kapoor`s movie, Awaara, released in 1951.

2nd generation
Prithviraj Kapoor - He was the eldest son of Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor and married Ramsarni Mehra
Trilok Kapoor - He was the second son of Dewan Basheswarnath Kapoor.

3rd generation
Raj Kapoor - He was the eldest son of Prithviraj and married Krishna Malhotra.
Shammi Kapoor - He is the second son of Prithviraj and Geeta Bali was his first wife, while Neila Devi was his second wife.
Shashi Kapoor - He is the youngest son of Prithviraj and married Jennifer Kendal.

4th generation
Randhir Kapoor - He is the eldest son of Raj Kapoor and married Babita.
Rishi Kapoor - The second son of Raj Kapoor; he married Neetu Singh Kapoor.
Rajiv Kapoor - He is the youngest son of Raj Kapoor.
Ritu Nanda - She is the eldest daughter of Raj Kapoor; married to Rajan Nanda
Reema Jain - She is the second daughter of Raj Kapoor; married to Manoj Jain.
Kanchan Desai - She is the daughter of Shammi Kapoor and married to Ketan Desai, son of Manmohan Desai.
Aditya Raj Kapoor - He is the son of Shammi Kapoor; married to Priti.
Kunal Kapoor - He is the eldest son of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal.
Karan Kapoor - He is the second son of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal.
Sanjana Kapoor - He is the daughter of Shashi Kapoor and Jennifer Kendal.

5th generation
Karisma Kapoor - She is the eldest daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita; married to Sanjay Kapur.
Kareena Kapoor - She is the second daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita.
Ranbir Kapoor - He is the son of Rishi and Neetu Singh Kapoor.
Riddhima Sahni Kapoor - She is the daughter of Rishi and Neetu Singh Kapoor; married to Bharat Sahni.
Natasha Nanda - She is the daughter of Ritu and Rajan Nanda.
Nikhil Nanda - He is the son of Ritu and Rajan Nanda; married to Shweta Bachchan-Nanda, daughter of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.
Armaan Jain - He is the eldest son of Reema and Manoj Jain
Aadar Jain - He is the second son of Reema and Manoj Jain
Pooja Desai - She is the eldest daughter of Kanchan and Ketan Desai
