Ranji Trophy - 1999-2000, Indian Cricket
The Mumbai team clinched the championship title in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 for proving its superiority, once again.

The Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 saw the participation of all the regular 27 teams that had been playing against each other in the tournament for the previous several editions. The teams participated in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000, after being divided into five different zones, depending on their geographical positions. The organisers of the premium domestic cricket tournament in India, BCCI named the zones as the Central Zone, East Zone, North Zone, South Zone and West Zone. The teams first played within their respective zones to claim the top spots in the zone and then they proceeded towards the Super League stage of the tournament for competing to enter into the knock out level of Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000. The teams that took part in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 included the likes of Andhra, Assam, Baroda, Bengal, Bihar, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mumbai, Orissa, Punjab, Railways, Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Services, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and the Vidarbha.

Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 Central Zone League Matches: The Central Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 comprised of 5 teams, all the regular participants of the tournament, coming from the Central region of India. The Ranji Trophy has earned a lot of fame and recognition for being one of the most popular and fruitful domestic cricket tournaments in India. The participating teams under the Central Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 included the likes of Vidarbha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Railways and Madhya Pradesh. All the teams tried their best to claim one of the top three spots in the zone so that they could enter into the Super League stage of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000. However, only the teams like Rajasthan, Railways and Uttar Pradesh eventually became successful to do so from the zone, as they earned the highest points from the zonal level league matches. The Rajasthan, Railways and Uttar Pradesh earned total of 23, 19 and 19 points, respectively at the end of the zonal level league matches.

Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 East Zone League Matches: 5 teams participated under the East Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 and all the teams were the regular participants of the tournament for the previous several editions. The Ranji Trophy is well famous as the best domestic cricket tournament in India and the East Zone teams in the zone were mainly representing different states from the Eastern region of India, in the tournament. The teams included the likes of Orissa, Assam, Tripura, Bihar and Bengal and all of them gave their best efforts for becoming one of the top three teams in the zone. The teams also tried their best to secure a berth in the Super League stage of the tournament, however, only the teams like Orissa, Bihar and Bengal could eventually do so from the East Zone. The Orissa, Bihar and Bengal teams earned total of 23, 22 and 21 points, respectively from the zonal level league matches and they proceeded to the Super League stage for competing with the top teams of the other zones.

Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 North Zone League Matches: The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 comprised of 6 teams that had been playing in the tournament for the previous several editions. Most of the teams were representing various states from the Northern region of India in the most popular and premium domestic cricket tournament of India. The teams included the likes of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Haryana and Services and they played against each other for claiming the top spot in the zone. According to the rules and regulations of the Ranji Trophy, only the top three teams from each zone were promoted to the Super League stage of the tournament. The teams like Punjab, Delhi and Haryana became those three teams from the North zone as they earned the highest points from the league matches. The Punjab, Delhi and Haryana teams earned total of 34, 32 and 27 points, respectively, at the end of the zonal level league matches.

Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 South Zone League Matches: 6 teams participated under the South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 and the regular participants of the tournament were mainly coming from the Southern region of India. The tournament is well known in all over the world, as the premium domestic cricket tournament in India. The teams that participated in the tournament under the South Zone included the likes of Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra, Hyderabad, Goa and Tamil Nadu. The teams competed with each other in the zonal level league matches with a view to become one of the top three teams in the zone so that they could get an entry into the Super League stage of the tournament. However, only the teams like Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad and Karnataka eventually became successful to do so from the South Zone, as they earned total of 31, 29 and 27 points, respectively from the zonal level league matches.

Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 West Zone League Matches: The 5 teams that played against each other under the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 included the likes of Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Baroda and Saurashtra. All the teams were the regular participants in the tournament for the previous several editions and they were mainly representing different states from the Western region of India. The teams played against each other in the zonal level league matches with the same objective of becoming one of the top three teams in the zone. The main reason behind the teams` this objective was that, only the top three teams from each zone were allowed to advance to the Super League stage of the tournament. The teams like Mumbai, Baroda and Saurashtra entered into the Super League stage from the West Zone, as they earned total of 24, 20 and 14 points, at the end of the zonal level league matches.

Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 Super League Matches: 15 teams participated in the Super League stage of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 and the teams included the top three teams from each of the fives zones of the tournament. The teams were selected on the basis of the points that they earned from the zonal level league matches in their respective zones. The teams included the likes of Baroda, Bihar, Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Mumbai, Punjab, Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu, Saurashtra, Bengal, Railways and Orissa. The teams were divided into three different groups named Group A, Group B and Group C and each of the groups comprised 3 teams. The teams played against each other in the Super League matches of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 and they tried their best to become one of the top six teams in the stage. The main reason behind the teams` this endeavour was that the BCCI allowed only the top six teams from the Super League stage to compete in the knock out level of the tournament for the championship title.

Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000 Knock out Matches: After the completion of the Super League matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000, the top six teams form the Super League stage got the promotion to advance to the Knock out level of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000. The teams that got the highest points in the Super League matches were promoted to the knock out level and the teams included the likes of Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Hyderabad, Karnataka and Mumbai. The teams participated in the knock out matches of the Ranji Trophy, 1999-2000, like the Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Final. All the teams gave their best efforts to clinch the championship title by beating all the other teams on the way. However, it was the Mumbai that became successful to clinch the coveted championship title by beating the Hyderabad team in the Final.
