The Delhi, Punjab and Haryana teams became the toppers in the North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99.

The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 comprised of 6 teams and all the teams were mainly coming from the Northern region of India. The teams were the regular participants of the most popular domestic cricket tournament in India and they included the likes of Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Services, Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The teams competed with each other in the zonal level league matches very hard with a view to claim one of the top three spots in the zone. They also tried their best to secure a berth in the Super League stage of the tournament. However, the teams like Delhi, Punjab and Haryana eventually became successful to do so from the zone, with total of 34, 32 and 22 points, respectively from the league matches.

The Haryana and Delhi teams played against each other in the first of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 and the match was held at Rohtak from 22-25 October, 1998. The Delhi team got a very good start in the tournament by clinching a huge victory of 9 wickets in the match and also by earning 8 points from the match. The Haryana team failed to earn any points from the match. The Jammu & Kashmir and Services teams appeared in the second match of the zone and the two teams played the match at Jammu from 22-25 October, 1998. The match saw the Services team winning by a good margin of 7 wickets to earn 8 points and it also saw the Jammu & Kashmir team remaining pointless. The third match of the zone was played between the teams of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and the match took place at Mandi from 22-25 October, 1998. The winner of the match was the Punjab team with a very good margin of an innings and 16 runs and the team also earned 8 points from the match. The Himachal Pradesh team remained pointless in the match.

The fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 was played between the teams of Delhi and Services and the match was held at Delhi from 29 October-01 November, 1998. The Delhi team won the match by a very good margin of an innings and 75 runs and it also earned 8 points from the match. The Services team failed to earn any points from the match. The teams of Himachal Pradesh and Haryana played against each other in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Una from 29 October-01 November, 1998. The Haryana team became the winner of the match by a margin of 8 wickets for earning 8 points and the Himachal Pradesh teams remained pointless in the match. The match between the teams of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir was also held during the same timing from 29 October-01 November, 1998 and the two teams played the match at Amritsar. The match was won by the Punjab team with a very good margin of an innings and 183 runs and the team earned 8 points from the match. The Jammu & Kashmir team could not earn even a single point from the match.

The Jammu & Kashmir team appeared in the seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 also and this time, it played against the Haryana team at Jammu from 07-10 November, 1998. The Haryana team became the winner of the match with a margin of 43 runs for earning 8 points and the Jammu & Kashmir team remained pointless in the match. The Delhi team then played against the Himachal Pradesh team in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Delhi from 07-10 November, 1998. The match remained drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Delhi and Himachal Pradesh teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The Services and Punjab team then played against each other in the next match of the zone and the match was held at Palam from 07-10 November, 1998. The Punjab team earned 8 points from the match by clinching a victory of an innings and 3 runs and the Services team failed to earn any points from the match.

The match between the teams of Delhi and Punjab was the tenth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 and the two teams played the match at Delhi from 13-16 November, 1998. The drawn match saw the Delhi team earning 5 points and Punjab earning 3 points, respectively from it. The Services and Himachal Pradesh teams played against each other in the next match of the zone and the match was held at Delhi from 13-16 November, 1998. The winner of the match was the Services team with a margin of 5 wickets to earn 8 points and the Himachal Pradesh team failed to earn any points from the match. The next match of the zone involved the teams like Punjab and Haryana and the two teams played the match at Amritsar from 20-23 November, 1998. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Punjab and Haryana teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match.

The Jammu & Kashmir team played against the Himachal Pradesh team in the next match of the North Zone and the match took place at Jammu from 20-23 November, 1998. The Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The next match of the zone saw the teams of Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir paying against each other at Jammu from 26-29 November, 1998. Playing very well in the match, the Delhi team clinched a victory of 168 runs to earn 8 points and the Jammu & Kashmir team remained pointless in the match. The last of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1998-99 was played between the teams of Services and Haryana and the two teams played the match at Delhi from 26-29 November, 1998. The Services and Haryana teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match.
