Kaumarabhritya, Ayurveda
Kaumarabhritya is one of the eight branches of medical science or Ayurveda.

 Kaumarabhritya, AyurvedaKaumarabhritya is a branch of Ayurveda or the Ashtang Ayurveda which deals with the curing of prenatal, postnatal baby care and gynecology. Kaumarabhritya carefully deals with the problem of infertility and treatment methods. This branch says that the mental and physical state of the mother has direct relations with the health of the child.

Kaumarabhritya suggested particular diet, routine, nutrition and care of women during and after conceiving.

According to Kaumarabhritya it is essential for the mother to be hale and hearty so that she can breast feed her child. This branch also mentioned about a method called `punsanvan vidhi` for having a child of one`s desired gender, intelligence and constitution. Apart from these, Kaumarabhritya also offers treatment for various disorders concerning children`s health such as gastrointestinal diseases, teething disorder and rickets.
