Babita is a formal Indian actress and more popular as the mother of actresses Kareena Kapoor and Karishma Kapoor and the wife to Randhir Kapoor. Babita was born with the name Bhambhani on April 20, 1948 to actor Hari Shivdasani, which is a Sindhi family. Babita was the niece of 1960s actress Sadhana. Hari Shivdasani conducted a screen test for her with expert producer G.P. Sippy. However, he liked her screen test and gave her the prospect to star in his film.

Babita had a short film career and appeared in 19 films. The films casting Babita include Raaz (1966), Dus Lakh (1966), Aulad (1968), Farz (1967), Kab Kyon Aur Kahan (1970), Haseena Maan Jayegi (1969) and many more. She starred with her future husband Randhir Kapoor in the popular film Kal Aaj Aur Kal.
She married Randhir Kapoor on November 6, 1971. After their marriage, Babita left the film industry, as part of the Kapoor tradition, which does not allow women to act in films. Babita and Randhir Kapoor had two children - Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. After the birth of their daughters, their relationship was under much tension and finally after a few years they separated. Babita lived with her two daughters and eventually she broke the tradition of Kapoor girls not working in films and encouraged her two daughters for this profession. Her two daughters are now acclaimed stars of their generation. In March 2005, she became a grandmother when eldest daughter, Karishma gave birth to a baby girl - Samaira. She now lives in Mumbai with her younger daughter.
