Surekha Sikri is a well-known actress in the field of Hindi theatre. Born is 1945 this Hindi theatre personality was very much interested in acting from her childhood. She received her diploma in acting from the National School of Drama in 1968. Surekha Sikri was immediately absorbed into its repertory company, where she performed for the next twenty years. She won recognition very young as the heroine in Ramesh Bakshi`s Devyani Ka Kahna Hai i.e. `Thus Speaks Devyani`. In this play this popular Hindi Theatre Personality expresses emotion and inner complexity easily but sensitively.
Surekha Sikri`s portrayals of Devyani`s restlessness for freedom and Savitri`s wavering of mind in Mohan Rakesh`s Adhe-Adhure in 1976 provided new interpretations to the characters. She proved equally effective as the young Alison in John Osborne`s Look Back in Anger or the grandmother in Jaywant Dalvi`s Sandhya Chhaya i.e. `Evening Shadows` in 1978. She performed notably well in Shanta Gandhi`s Jasma Odan in 1968, Surendra Verma`s Surya ki antim khan se surya ki pahli kiran tak i.e. `From the Sun`s Last Ray to the Sun`s First Ray` in 1983, and Jagdish Chander`s Kabhi na chhoden khet i.e. `Never Give up the Fight` in 1984. Surekha Sikri, the popular Hindi theatre personality also designed costumes. Surekha Sikri acts for cinema and television, and was acclaimed as the go-between in Mani Kaul`s Nazar i.e. `Gaze` in 1989. Surekha Sikri is presently seen on
Indian Television too. She acts in Serials like
Saat Phere and Balika Vadhu.
