Bombay and Baroda teams were the final winners from West Zone League Matches, Ranji Trophy, 1989-90.

There were 5 teams which played against each other under the West Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1989-90, the leading domestic cricket tournament in India. All the teams were the regular participants in the tournament and they included the likes of Bombay, Baroda, Gujarat, Saurashtra and Maharashtra. Most of the teams were representing various states from the Western region of India and they competed with each other very hard for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone. The teams were also trying to get the promotion to the knock out level of the tournament, as the tournament rules and regulations would allow only the top two teams to get into the knock out level. However, the teams like Bombay and Baroda eventually claimed the top spots in the zone by earning total of 49 and 46 points from the zonal level league matches.

The Gujarat and Bombay teams played against each other in the first of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1989-90 and the match was held at Surat from 18-20 November, 1989. It was drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Bombay and Gujarat teams 14 and 7 points respectively for the drawn match. The second match of the zone involved the teams like Saurashtra and Baroda and the two teams played the match at Rajkot from 18-20 November, 1989. The drawn match saw the Baroda team earning 13 points and Saurashtra earning 8 points from it. The next match of the zone saw the teams of Baroda and Gujarat playing against each other at Baroda from 25-27 November, 1989 and the match remained drawn during the specified period of time. The Baroda and Gujarat teams earned 16 and 9 points respectively.

The Maharashtra and Saurashtra teams then played against each other in the fourth of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1989-90 and the match was held at Pune from 25-27 November, 1989. The match was also a drawn one and the Maharashtra and Saurashtra teams earned 10 and 6 points, respectively from the match. The Saurashtra team then played against the Bombay team in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Bombay from 01-03 December, 1989. The Bombay and Saurashtra teams earned 12 and 6 points, respectively from the drawn match. The Maharashtra and Baroda teams appeared in the next match of the zone and the match was held at Pune from 01-03 December, 1989. The match could not yield any specific result for the teams and the match officials awarded the Baroda and Maharashtra teams 11 and 9 points, respectively for the drawn match.

The match between the teams of Baroda and Bombay was the seventh of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1989-90 and the organisers organised the match at Baroda from 09-11 December, 1989. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the Bombay and Baroda teams earned 12 and 6 points, respectively from the match. The next match of the zone involved the teams like Gujarat and Maharashtra and the two teams played the match at Bulsar from 09-11 December, 1989. The match also remained drawn during the specified period of time and the Gujarat and Maharashtra teams earned 16 and 11 points from the match. The Maharashtra team appeared in the next match of the zone also and this time, it played against the Bombay team at Bombay from 15-17 December, 1989. The Bombay and Maharashtra teams earned 11 and 10 points respectively from the match as it remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The last of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1989-90 involved the teams like Saurashtra and Gujarat and the two teams played the match at Rajkot from 15-17 December, 1989. The match was also a drawn one and the match officials awarded the Saurashtra and Gujarat teams 10 and 8 points, respectively for the match.
