The Delhi and Haryana teams topped all the other teams in this zone.

The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1984-85 was comprised of a number of 5 teams, all the regular participants in the tournament. The teams were representing the Northern region of India and they included the likes of Services, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Punjab and Haryana. All the teams played with great enthusiasm and cricketing expertise and they tried their best to become one of the top two teams in the zone. The teams also tried hard to get a chance for competing into the knock out level of the tournament. However, the teams like Delhi and Haryana eventually became successful to get into the knock out level, as they earned total of 76 and 68 points, respectively from the zonal level league matches.

The first of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1984-85 was played between the teams of Services and Jammu & Kashmir and the two teams played the match at Delhi from 25-27 November, 1984. The Services team played very well in the match and clinched a victory of an innings and 9 runs for earning 29 points from it. The Jammu & Kashmir team also earned points from the match. The Jammu & Kashmir team clashed with the Haryana team in the second match of the zone and the match was held at Rohtak from 29 November-01 December, 1984. The winner of the match was the Haryana team with a margin of an innings and 71 runs and the team earned 30 points from the match, as well. The Jammu & Kashmir team earned 3 points from the match. The third match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Delhi and Punjab and the clash took place at Delhi from 30 November-02 December, 1984. The match remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Delhi and Punjab teams 11 and 8 points, respectively for the match.

The Delhi team appeared in the fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1984-85 also and this time, it played against the Jammu & Kashmir team at Delhi from 04-06 December, 1984. The match saw the Delhi team winning by a huge margin of an innings and 53 runs and also earning 30 points from it. The Jammu & Kashmir team earned 5 points form the match, as well. The match between the teams of Services and Punjab was also organised during the same timing from 04-06 December and the two teams played the match at Delhi. The drawn match saw the Punjab team earning 15 points and Services earning 6 points from it. The next match of the zone involved the teams like Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. The two teams played the match at Chandigarh from 08-10 December, 1984 and the Punjab team won the match by a very god margin of an innings and 169 runs. The Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir teams earned 31 and 2 points, respectively from the match.

There was a clash between the teams of Services and Haryana in the seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1984-85 and the match took place at Delhi from 11-13 December, 1984. The Haryana team earned 29 points from the match, by clinching a victory of an innings and 24 runs and the Services team earned 4 points from the match, as well. The next match of the zone saw a battle between the teams of Haryana and Delhi at Rohtak from 15-17 December, 1984. The Delhi and Haryana teams earned 10 and 5 points, respectively from the drawn match. The teams of Delhi and Services clashed with each other in the next match of the zone and the match was played at Delhi from 21-23 December, 1984. The Delhi team played very nicely in the match and clinched a victory of 9 wickets for earning 25 runs from it. The Services team also earned 5 points from the match. The last of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1984-85 involved the teams like Punjab and Haryana and the two teams played the match at Patiala from 21-23 December, 1984. There was no winner in the match and the teams of Punjab and Haryana earned 6 and 4 points, respectively from it.
