The religious significance of Krishna River is associated with the Goddess Krishnaveni mata.

Mallikarjuna temple at Srisailam flourish along the course of the Krishna riverAll Hindus respect the Krishna River and a holy dip in the river is believed to purify the mortals. The river is personified as the Goddess Krishnaveni mata. Many pilgrim places including the Mallikarjuna temple (Srisailam), Amareshwara Swamy temple (Amaravati) and the Durga-Malleshwara temple (Vijayawada) flourish along the course of the river. These pilgrimages attract thousands of devotees all round the year. The Krishna Pushkaram fair is held on the banks of the river once in every twelve years.
