None of the teams could prevent Haryana and Delhi teams from reaching knock out level from this zone.

The North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1982-83 was comprised of 5 teams that were representing the Northern region of India in the tournament. The teams included the likes of Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir and Services and they tried their best to become one of the top two teams in the zone. The main reason behind their this endeavour was that the BCCI allowed only the top two teams from every zone to enter into the knock out level of the tournament. The teams like Haryana and Delhi were the toppers in the North Zone and they earned 25 and 24 points, respectively after the completion of the zonal level league matches.

The North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1982-83 started with the match between the teams of Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir and the teams played the match at Srinagar from 14-16 October, 1982. The winner of the match was the Haryana team with a huge margin of 9 wickets and the team also earned 8 valuable points from the match. The Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir teams clashed with each other in the second match of the zone, which was held at Srinagar from 20-22 October, 1982. The match saw the Punjab team earning 8 points, as the team won it with a very good margin of an innings and 36 runs. The third match of the zone was played between the teams of Haryana and Delhi at Chandigarh from 05-07 December 1982. The Delhi team earned 5 points from the drawn match.

In the fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1982-83, there was a clash between the teams of Services and Punjab and the clash took place at Delhi from 05-07 December, 1982. The drawn match saw the Punjab team earning 5 points and Services earning 3 points from it. The Punjab team appeared in the next match of the zone also and this time, it played against the Delhi team at Delhi from 09-11 December, 1982. The match also remained drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Punjab and Delhi teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The teams of Services and Haryana then met with each other in the next match of the zone and the match took place at Delhi from 10-12 December, 1982. Playing wonderfully in the match, the Haryana team clinched a huge victory of an innings and 27 runs and also earned the entire 9 points from it.

The clash between the teams of Delhi and Services took place in the seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1982-83 and the match was held at Delhi from 15-17 December, 1982. The Delhi team earned 8 valuable points from the match, as it won by a huge margin of 9 wickets. The Haryana and Punjab teams then met with each other in the next match of the zone at Chandigarh from 18-20 December, 1982, which remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The Haryana and Punjab teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match. The next match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Delhi and the two teams played the match at Jammu from 19-21 December, 1982. The match saw the Delhi team earning 8 points, by winning it with a margin of 7 wickets. The last of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1982-83 was played between the teams of Services and Jammu & Kashmir at Udhampur from 24-26 December, 1982. The Jammu & Kashmir team showed a very good performance in the closely contested match and clinched a narrow victory of 4 wickets for earning the entire 9 points.
