Dyumatsena is a king of the Salwas. Dyumatsena is said to be very brave and just. Dyumatsena became blind while his son was only an infant and his kingdom fell to a kinsman, a ruthless enemy. Dyumatsena then fled to a hermit grove with his wife Balavatsa and his only son Satyavan.
When the son of Dyumatsena grew up, he was seen by the princess Savitri and she selected him as her future husband. She afterwards obtained as a boon from Yama, the restoration of the old king`s sight and he recovered possession of his kingdom, when he was again anointed sovereign.
