Baidyanath Sharma is a Daskathia balladeer. Born in 1921 he learnt singing from Krishna Chandra Sahu and began his career at the age of 10. His powerful voice and talent as a performer fascinated audiences for hours and won him the honour of Gayak Ratna i.e. `Gem of Singers` from a local raja in Orissa as early as 1946. He soon became one of the most sought-after singers of Daskathia. These were regularly broadcasted from All India Radio, Cuttack. He has also recorded several albums, and taught the art form to over thirty troupes.
