The first Pre-Quarter-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 was played between the teams of Haryana and Bengal at Rai from 25-27 February 1977. The Haryana team played very well in the match and defeated the Bengal team by 183 runs for entering into the Quarterfinal stage. The second Pre-Quarter-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 saw a clash between the teams of Uttar Pradesh and Baroda and the match was held at Mohan Nagar from 25-27 February, 1977. Though the match remained drawn during the specified period of time, the match officials allowed the Uttar Pradesh team to advance to the Quarter-Final stage of the tournament. The Uttar Pradesh and Bihar teams played against each other in the first Quarter-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 at Mohan Nagar from 11-14 March, 1977. It was another drawn match in the knock out level of the tournament and the match saw the Uttar Pradesh team getting a permission to advance to the Semi-Final stage of the tournament. The second Quarter-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 involved the teams like Bombay and Haryana and the match was held at Bombay from 11-14 March, 1977. The winner of the match was the Bombay team with a margin of an innings and 105 runs and the teams got an entry into the Semi-Final stage of the tournament, as well. There was a clash between the teams of Railways and Bihar in the third Quarterfinal match of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 that took place at Delhi from 11-14 March 1977. Playing very well in the match, the Tamil Nadu team clinched a victory of 49 runs for reaching the Semi-Finals. The last and fourth Quarterfinal match of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 was also held during the same timing from 11-14 March 1977 and the match was played at Bangalore between the teams of Karnataka and Delhi. The Delhi team played well in the drawn match and got the permission to compete in the Semi-Finals of the tournament. The Bombay and Tamil Nadu teams played against each other in the first Semi-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 and the match was held at Bombay from 26-29 March, 1977. The Bombay team thrashed the Tamil Nadu team by 10 wickets in the match and stormed into the Final of the tournament. The second Semi-Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 was played between the teams of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh at Delhi from 26-29 March, 1977. The drawn match saw the Delhi team getting a permission to enter into the Final of the tournament and also to compete against the Bombay team. Thus the Bombay and Delhi teams locked their horns together in the Final match of the Ranji Trophy, 1976-77 and the match took place at Delhi from 08-13 April, 1977. Though the Delhi team tried very hard, it failed to beat the Bombay team and Bombay clinched a wonderful victory of 129 runs in the Final to win the champions' trophy for yet another time. |
