Panchala is the country situated to the north and west of Delhi.

Panchala, Country To The north And West Of DelhiPanchala is the country situated to the north and west of Delhi. Panchala is placed between the foot of the Himalaya and the Chambal. Later Panchala was divided into northern and southern Panchala separated by the Ganges.

The name of the state Panchala is derived from the five or pancha sons of Hariyaswa, who were able to protect the countries from any destruction. Hence they were termed the Panchalas.
