Ranji Trophy, 1970-71, North Zone League Matches
Delhi and Punjab went to the knock out level of the tournament form this zone.

The North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1970-71 saw the Haryana team joining with the other five regular teams of the zone. The joining of the Haryana team made increased the number of participating teams in the North Zone to 6 and the teams included the likes of Delhi, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Services, Railways and Punjab. All the teams were from the Northern region of India and they tried hard to become one of the top two teams in the zone. They also tried to get a chance in the knock out level of the tournament and the teams like Delhi and Services became successful to do so from the zone.

The first of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1970-71 was played between the teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Services at Srinagar from 03-05 October, 1970. The match saw the Services team winning by a huge margin of an innings and 19 runs and also earning 9 points from it. The second match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir and the match was held at Srinagar from 09-11 October, 1970. The Delhi team got a good start in the tournament by earning 9 points from the match, as it won it by a margin of 10 wickets. The third match of the North Zone also saw the Jammu & Kashmir team playing on the field and this time, it played against the Punjab team at Srinagar from 14-16 October, 1970. The Punjab team played very well in the match and earned 9 points form it, by wining with a huge margin of 8 wickets.

The Railways and Jammu & Kashmir teams played against each other in the fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1970-71 and the match took place at Srinagar from 19-21 December, 1970. The Jammu & Kashmir team lost this match as well and the Railways team won it by a huge margin of 130 runs and earned the entire 9 points from it. The next match of the zone saw the Delhi and Haryana teams playing at Chandigarh from 13-15 November, 1970. The Delhi team played wonderfully in the match and won it by a margin of 74 runs and earned 8 valuable points from it. The Delhi team then played against the Punjab team in the next match at Delhi from 19-21 November, 1970 and the match remained drawn during the specified period of time. The Delhi and Punjab teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match.

In the seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1970-71, the teams of Jammu & Kashmir and Haryana clashed with each other at Jammu from 22-24 November, 1970. The Haryana team showed a very good performance in the match and clinched a narrow victory of 15 runs to earn 8 points from it. The next match of the zone saw the Punjab and Services teams clashing with each other at Delhi from 23-25 November, 1970. The drawn match saw the Punjab team earning 5 points and Services earning 3 points from it. The Railways team then played against the Haryana team in the next match at Chandigarh from 27-29 November, 1970. The winner of the match was the Railways team with a margin of an innings and 104 runs and the team earned 9 points from the match, as well.

There was a clash between the teams of Delhi and Services at Delhi in the tenth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1970-71 and the match was held from 28-30 November, 1970. Playing well in the match, the Delhi team clinched a 130 runs victory over the Services team and also earned 8 points from it. The Delhi team appeared in the next match of the zone also and this time, it played against the Railways team at Delhi from 02-04 December, 1970. As the match was drawn during the stipulated duration, the Delhi and Railways teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from it. The next match saw a battle between the teams of Railways and Punjab at Amritsar from 06-08 December, 1970 and this was another drawn match. The Delhi team earned 5 points and Railways earned 3 points from the match.

The teams of Haryana and Services then met with each other in the next match at Chandigarh from 06-08 December, 1970. The drawn match earned the Services team 5 points and Haryana team 3 points. The 14th of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1970-71 involved the teams like Services and Railways and the match was held at Delhi from 11-13 December, 1970. The Services team earned 8 points from the match by winning it with a good margin of 116 runs. The last match of the North Zone was played at Jullundur from 11-13 December, 1970 between the teams of Punjab and Haryana. The Punjab team played very well in the match and clinched a comprehensive victory of an innings and 135 runs for earning 8 points from it.
