Ranji Trophy, 1969-70, West Zone League Matches
Bombay once again dominated all the other teams in the zone.

A number of 5 teams took part under the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 and all of the teams were coming from the Western part of India. The teams that competed against each other in the West Zone included the likes of Bombay, Saurashtra, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Baroda. They tried their best to become one of the toppers in the zone and also to get a chance to compete with the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament. The Bombay and Baroda teams eventually became successful to do so from the zone.

The first of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 was played between the teams of Saurashtra and Baroda at Rajkot from 03-05 January, 1970. The Saurashtra team got a good start in the tournament, as it won the match with a margin of an innings and 94 runs and also earned 8 valuable points from it. There was a clash between the teams of Bombay and Maharashtra in the second match of the West Zone and the match was held at Bombay from 03-05 January, 1970. The match was drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Maharashtra and Bombay teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The Maharashtra team then played against the Baroda team in the next match of the zone at Sangli from 10-12 January, 1970. The Maharashtra and Baroda teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the drawn match.

The teams of Saurashtra and Gujarat met with each other in the fourth of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 and the match took place at Jamnagar from 10-12 January, 1970. The Gujarat team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a huge victory of 8 wickets for earning the entire 9 points from the match. The next match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Bombay and Saurashtra and the match was held at Bombay from 18-20 January, 1970. Playing very well in the match, the champions of the previous year, Bombay team defeated the Saurashtra team by a huge margin of 8 wickets and also earned 9 points from the match. The sixth match of the West Zone involved the teams of Gujarat and Maharashtra and the two teams played the match at Nadiad from 17-19 January, 1970. The drawn match saw the Maharashtra team earning 5 points and Gujarat earning 3 points from it.

Two of the most powerful teams in the West Zone, Bombay and Baroda then clashed with each other in the seventh of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70. The match was held at Baroda from 24-26 January, 1970 and the Bombay team thrashed the Baroda team by a huge margin of an innings and 30 runs for earning 9 points from the match. The teams of Maharashtra and Saurashtra then played against each other in the next match of the zone at Ahmednagar from 24-26 January, 1970, where the Maharashtra team won by 141 runs. The Maharashtra team also earned the entire 9 points from the match. The next match of the zone saw the two teams of Gujarat and Bombay clashing with each other at Surat from 31 January-02 February, 1970. The match was drawn during the stipulated duration and it saw the Bombay and Gujarat teams earning 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The last of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 was played between the teams of Baroda and Gujarat and the match was held at Baroda from 07-09 February, 1970. None of the teams could yield any fruit from the match, as the match officials declared it as a drawn one.
