Ranji Trophy, 1969-70, East Zone League Matches
The Bengal and Bihar teams dominated the other teams in the zone.

The East Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 was comprised of a number of 4 teams, including the likes of Orissa, Assam, Bengal and Bihar. The teams were coming from the Eastern region of India and they played against each other first in the zonal stage and then the best two teams of the zone went on to the knock out level. The teams played against the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament, for the championship title.

The East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 started with the match between the teams of Orissa and Assam and the match was held at Cuttack form 20-22 December, 1969. The Assam team played well in the match and earned 8 points by winning it with a margin of 4 wickets and the win gave a good start to the team in the tournament. The second match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Bihar and Assam and the match took place at Dhanbad from 25-27 December, 1969. The Bihar team got a wonderful start in the tournament, as they won it with a huge margin of 10 wickets and also earned 8 points from the match.

The Bihar team then played against the Orissa team in the third match of the East Zone at Rourkela from 30 December, 1969 - 02 January, 1970. The Bihar team played extremely well in the match and got a huge victory by a margin of an innings and 191 runs. The Bihar team also earned 8 valuable points from the match. The fourth of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 saw a battle between the teams of Bengal and Assam and the match was held at Calcutta from 30 December, 1969 - 01 January, 1970. The Bengal team clinched a huge victory in the match by a big margin of an innings and 80 runs and it earned 9 points from it, as well.

The fifth of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 involved the teams like Bengal and Orissa and the teams played the match at Rourkela from 04-06 January, 1970. The Bengal team played well in this match also and defeated the Orissa team by a huge margin of an innings and 48 runs to earn 8 points from it. The two most powerful teams in the zone, Bengal and Bihar clashed with each other in the last match of the East Zone and the match took place at Patna from 10-12 January, 1970. The Bengal team played extraordinarily in the match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 123 runs to earn 8 points and also to prove its ultimate superiority in the zone.
