Rajasthan and Vidarbha teams once again topped in the zone.

The Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 saw the participation of a number of 4 teams, including the likes of Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. All the teams were from the Central region of India and they fought hard with each other for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone and also to get a chance for playing in the knock out level of the tournament. The Rajasthan and Vidarbha teams eventually became able to get this target and they played against the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament.

The first of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 was played between the teams of Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh at Nagpur from 05-07 December, 1969. The match was drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The teams of Rajasthan and Vidarbha then met with each other in the second match of the zone at Jodhpur from 10-12 January, 1970. The drawn match saw the Vidarbha team earning 5 points and Rajasthan earning 3 points from it.

The Vidarbha team appeared in the third match of the Central Zone also and this time, it played against the team of Uttar Pradesh at Agra from 16-18 January, 1970. None of the teams could win the match and the match officials divided the points to the two teams, after declaring the match as a drawn one. The fourth of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 saw a clash between the teams of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and the two teams played against each other at Ajmer from 16-18 January, 1970. This was another drawn match in the zone and the match saw the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh teams earning 5 and 3 points, respectively from it.

The Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh teams then played against each other in the fifth of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 and the match took place at Dehradun from 23-25 January, 1970. The match was drawn during the specified period of time and the match officials awarded the Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The last match of the Central Zone saw a huge clash between the teams of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and the match was held at Varanasi from 30 January-01 February, 1970. The Rajasthan team played extremely well in the match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 123 runs for earning 8 valuable points from the match. The win also helped the Rajasthan team to secure a birth in the knock out level of the tournament.
