Bombay once again went to the knock out level of the tournament.

The West Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 was comprised of a number of 5 teams, all coming from the Western region of India and all the regular participants in the tournament. The teams that participated in the tournament under the West Zone included the likes of Saurashtra, Bombay, Baroda, Maharashtra and Gujarat and they competed with each other for getting a chance to play in the knock out level of the tournament. The teams like Bombay and Baroda became the toppers in the zone and also secured a birth in the knock out level of the tournament.

The match between the teams of Saurashtra and Baroda at Rajkot from 23-25 September, 1967 was the first of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68. The Saurashtra team got a good start in the tournament, as it won the match by a huge margin of 242 runs. The second match of the West Zone saw a clash between the teams of Gujarat and Bombay at Ahmedabad from 23-25 September, 1967 and the match remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The Gujarat team then appeared against the Maharashtra team in the third match of the zone at Vallabh Vidyanagar from 30 September-02 October, 1967. The drawn match saw the Maharashtra team earning 5 points and Gujarat earning 3 points from it.

The fourth of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1967-68 involved the teams of Bombay and Maharashtra at Bombay from 14-16 October, 1967. The match was drawn during its stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Bombay and Maharashtra teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The Maharashtra team appeared in the next match of the West Zone also and this time, it played against the Baroda team at Walchandnagar from 11-13 November, 1967. The Maharashtra team played wonderfully in this match and clinched a victory of an innings and 36 runs for earning 8 points from it. The next match of the West Zone saw a clash between the teams of Saurashtra and Gujarat at Bhavanagar from 11-13 November, 1967. The Gujarat team won the match comprehensively by a margin of 116 runs.

There was a clash between the teams of Bombay and Saurashtra in the next match of the West Zone and the match was held at Bombay from 18-20 November, 1967. The Bombay team played extremely well in the match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 62 runs to earn 8 valuable points from it. The match between the teams of Baroda and Gujarat was also held during the same timing from 18-20 November, 1967 and the match was held at Baroda. The Gujarat team played wonderfully in the match and surprisingly defeated the Baroda team by a huge margin of 10 wickets to earn 8 points from it. The next match saw a clash between the teams of Maharashtra and Saurashtra and the match was held at Poona from 24-26 November, 1967. The winner of the match was the Maharashtra team with a good margin of 126 runs. The last of the West Zone saw the most powerful teams of the zone, Bombay and Baroda locking their horns together at Baroda from 24-26 November, 1967. The drawn match saw the Bombay team earning 5 points and Baroda earning 3 points from it.
