Ranji Trophy, 1966-67, West Zone League Matches
Bombay and Baroda once again entered the knock out level from this zone.

In the West Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67, there was a participation of a number of 5 teams that included the likes of Bombay, Baroda, Saurashtra, Gujarat and Maharashtra. All the teams were representing the Western region of India in the tournament and they played some wonderful matches against each other to make the cricket enthusiasts further happy. The teams gave their best efforts to become one of the top two teams in the zone and also to secure a birth in the knock out level of the tournament. However, the Bombay and Baroda teams eventually got into the knock out level of the tournament form the West Zone.

There was a clash between the teams of Maharashtra and Bombay at Aurangabad from 05-07 November, 1966, in the first of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67. The match officials declared the match as a drawn one. The second match of the West Zone involved the teams of Gujarat and Saurashtra and the teams played against each other at Vallab Vidyanagar from 22-25 November, 1966. The Gujarat team played well in the match and won it by a margin of 13 runs. The Saurashtra team then played against the Baroda team in the third match of the West Zone and the match was held at Baroda from 27-29 November, 1966. The drawn match saw both the Saurashtra and Baroda teams earning 3 points each from the match.

The teams of Bombay and Gujarat appeared in the fourth of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 and the match was held at Bombay from 03-05 December, 1966. The Bombay team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 64 runs to earn 9 points from it. The next match of the West Zone saw a clash between the teams of Saurashtra and Maharashtra at Rajkot from 25-27 December, 1966. Playing wonderfully in the match, the Maharashtra team got a huge win of an innings and 14 runs against the Saurashtra team in the match. Then, the Saurashtra team met the Bombay team in the next match at Jamnagar from 08-10 January, 1967. The Saurashtra team could not answer to the wonderful performances of the Bombay cricketers and as a result, the Bombay team won the match by 195 runs.

In the next match of the West Zone held at Baroda from 08-10 January, 1967, the teams like Baroda and Maharashtra played against each other. The match failed to yield any fruit for any of the fruits, as the match officials declared it as a drawn match. The Maharashtra team then appeared against the Gujarat team at Satara from 21-23 January, 1967, where the Gujarat team won by a margin of 153 runs. The Gujarat team got a lot of confidence from the win that it got against Maharashtra and it next met the Baroda team at Surta from 28-30 January, 1967. The Baroda team won the match with a narrow margin of 3 wickets. The last of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 involved the teams of Bombay and Baroda and the match was held at Bombay from 03-05 February, 1967. The Bombay team continued its extraordinary form in this match also and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 206 runs.
