Ranji Trophy, 1966-67, East Zone League Matches
Bengal and Bihar continued to rule in the zonal stage.

There was no change in the team list of the East Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67, as all the four teams that participated in the previous editions of the tournament, participated in this edition also. The teams like Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Orissa had been playing the Ranji Trophy for almost several years and they appeared in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 also. They played against each other for reaching to the knock out level of the tournament, however, only the teams like Bengal and Bihar could do so from the East Zone.

The East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 was started with the match between the teams of Bihar and Orissa at Jamshedpur from 10-12 December, 1966. The Bihar team started it journey in the tournament on a positive note, as it won this match with a very good margin of 9 wickets and also earned 9 points from it. The Bihar team then played against the Bengal team in the second match of the East Zone and the match was played at Calcutta from 16-18 December, 1966. The drawn match saw the Bengal team earning 5 points and Bihar earning 4 points from it.

In the third of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67, the teams of Bengal and Orissa clashed with each other at Calcutta from 21-23 December, 1966. The Bengal team showed a very good performance in the match and clinched a comprehensive victory of an innings and 216 runs for earning the entire 9 points from the match. The Bengal team appeared in the fourth match of the zone as well and this time, i9t played against the Assam team at Jorhat form 13-15 January, 1967. The Bengal team played extremely well in this match also and beat the Assam team convincingly with a margin of an innings and 145 runs. The team earned 9 points from the match, as well.

The teams of Assam and Bihar clashed with each other in the fifth of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 and the match was held at Jorhat from 20-21 January, 1967. The match was totally dominated by the Bihar team and it eventually clinched a huge victory of an innings and 50 runs. The Bihar team also earned 9 valuable points from the match. The last match of the East Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1966-67 was scheduled to be held between the teams of Assam and Orissa. The Assam team got a walkover in the match, as the match officials decided so, due to some unavoidable reasons.
