The East Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1964-65 was comprised of the teams like Bengal, Assam, Orissa and Bihar and all the came from the Eastern region of India. The teams competed hard with each other in the zonal level for getting a promotion into the knock out level of the tournament, however, only the teams like Bengal and Bihar could do so from the East Zone.

The match between the teams of Assam and Orissa was the first of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1964-65 and the match was held at Guwahati from 19-21 December, 1964. The drawn match saw the Assam team earning 5 points and Orissa team earning 3 points from it. The second match of the East Zone that is the match between the teams of Bengal and Bihar also took place during the same timing from 19-21 December, 1964, at Calcutta. The match was drawn during its stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Bengal and Bihar teams 5 and 3 poi0nts, respectively for the match.

The third of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1964-65 saw a clash between the teams of Bengal and Orissa and the match was held at Calcutta from 25-27 December, 1964. The Bengal team earned 5 points and Orissa team earned 3 points from the drawn match. The next match of the Eats Zone involved the teams of Assam and Bihar and the two teams clashed with each other at Guwahati from 25-27 December, 1964. As the match was drawn, the match officials awarded the Assam and Bihar teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match.

There was a clash between the teams of Assam and Bengal in the next match of the East Zone at Guwahati from 31 December, 1964 - 02 January, 1965. This was the fifth of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1964-65 and the match saw the Bengal team winning by 8 wickets. The Bengal team earned 5 points from the match and the Assam team also earned 3 valuable points from it. The last match of the East Zone saw a clash between the teams of Bihar and Orissa and the match was held at Jamshedpur from 02-04 January, 1965. The Bihar team played nicely in the match and won it by a good margin of 51 runs to earn 8 valuable points from it.
