Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 East Zone League Matches
Bengal topped among all other teams in the East Zone.

The Assam team started to participate in the tournament once again from the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64, after missing the previous one. The Assam team was among the four teams that played in the tournament under the East Zone and the other three teams were the likes of Bengal, Orissa and Bihar. All the teams were coming from the Eastern region of India and they competed with each other for getting into the knock out level of the tournament. However, the teams of Bengal and Bihar once again became the toppers of the East Zone.

The teams of Orissa and Assam started the proceedings of the East Zone, as they met with each other for the first of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 at Cuttack from 15-17 December, 1963. The drawn match saw the Orissa team earning 5 points and Assam earning 3 points from it. The Assam team then played against the Bihar team in the second match of the zone and the match was held at Jamshedpur from 20-21 December, 1963. The Bihar team played wonderfully in the match and earned 9 points from it by winning with a margin of 10 wickets.

The Bengal and Orissa teams played against each other in the next match of the East Zone at Cuttack from 21-23 December, 1963. The Bengal team got a very good start in the tournament, as they won the match with a huge margin of 10 wickets and also earned 8 points from it. The Bengal team then played against the Assam team in the fourth of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 at Calcutta from 24-26 December, 1963. The match was drawn during the stipulated period of time and the match officials awarded the Bengal and Assam team 6 and 3 points, respectively for the match.

The fifth of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 involved the teams of Bihar and Orissa and the match took place at Cuttack from 26-29 December, 1963. The drawn match saw the Orissa team earning 5 points and Bihar team earning 3 points from it. The two most powerful teams of the East Zone, Bengal and Bihar played the last of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 at Jamshedpur from 11-13 January, 1964. This match was also drawn during the specified duration and the match officials awarded Bengal team 5 points and Bihar team 3 points for the match.
