The teams like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha comprised the Central Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64. According to the rules and regulations of the BCCI, all the teams came from the Central India and they competed with each other for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone. The teams of Rajasthan and Vidarbha eventually got the chance to compete in the knock out level of the tournament from the Central Zone.

The Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 started with the match between the teams of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. The match was held at Udaipur from 10-12 November, 1963 and it saw the Rajasthan team earning 8 valuable points by winning the match by 9 wickets. The other two teams of the zones, Vidarbha and Uttar Pradesh clashed with each other in the second of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 and the match took place at Nagpur from 16-17 November, 1963. The Uttar Pradesh team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a convincing victory of an innings and 123 runs to earn 8 valuable points.

The clash between the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh was held in the next match at Indore from 23-24 November, 1963. The Madhya Pradesh team played nicely in the match and won it by 5 wickets for earning 9 points from it. The fourth of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 saw a clash between the teams of Vidarbha and Rajasthan and the match was held at Udaipur from 23-25 November, 1963. The match was drawn during the stipulated period of time and the match officials awarded the Rajasthan and Vidarbha teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match.

In the next match of the Central Zone, the two teams of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh met with each other at Udaipur from 27-29 November, 1963. The Rajasthan team once again played well in this match and won it by a margin of 5 wickets to earn 9 points from the match. The last of the Central Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1963-64 was held at Nagpur from 30 November- 02 December, 1963, between the teams of Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha. The match was a very closely contested one and the Vidarbha team did well to keep their heads cool during the crucial periods. The Vidarbha team won the match by a mere margin of 1 wicket and also earned 8 very valuable points from the match.
