Ranji Trophy, 1961-62 West Zone League Matches
Bombay continued to rule the zone and also the tournament.

The teams of Maharashtra, Bombay, Saurashtra, Baroda and Gujarat clashed with each other in the West Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1961-62. All the teams came from the Western part of India and after a very tough competition; the teams of Bombay and Baroda got the chance to play in the knock out level of the tournament from the zone.

The teams of Saurashtra and Gujarat started the procedures of the West Zone with their match at Rajkot from 01-03 October, 1961. The drawn match saw the Gujarat team earning 5 points from it. In the second of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1961-62, the teams of Baroda and Bombay clashed with each other at Baroda from 06-08 October, 1961. This match was also drawn during the stipulated period of the match and the match officials awarded Bombay and Baroda team 6 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The third match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Bombay and Saurashtra at Bombay from 28-29 October, 1961. The Bombay team got a huge victory of an innings and 92 runs in the match to earn the entire 9 points from the match.

The fourth of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1961-62 involved the teams of Maharashtra and Saurashtra and the match was held at Aurangabad from 03-05 November, 1961. The Maharashtra team won the match by 90 runs and earned 8 valuable points from it. Then, the teams of Baroda and Gujarat met with each other at Baroda from 18-20 November, 1961. The Baroda team earned the dull 9 points from the match by winning it with a margin of an innings and 63 runs. The match between the teams of Bombay and Gujarat was held at Atul from 24-26 November, 1961 and the Bombay and Gujarat teams got 5 and 4 points, respectively from the drawn match. The next match saw a clash between the teams of Maharashtra and Baroda at Ahmednagar from 24-26 November, 1961, where Maharashtra won by 61 runs to earn 8 valuable points.

The teams of Saurashtra and Baroda played against each other in the eight of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1961-62 and the match took place at Dharangadhra from 08-10 December, 1961. The Saurashtra team earned 9 points from the match by winning it with a margin of 10 wickets. The next match involved the teams of Bombay and Maharashtra and the match was held at Bombay from 20-22 December, 1961. The match saw the Bombay team winning by a huge margin of an innings and 160 runs and also earning the full 9 points from it. The last of the West Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1961-62 was held between the teams of Gujarat and Maharashtra at Surat from 24-26 December, 1961 and the match saw the Maharashtra team winning by 8 wickets and earning 9 points from it.
