Ranji Trophy, 1961-62 East Zone League Matches
This zone saw the participation from a number of 4 teams, all from the Eastern region of India.

The East Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1961-62 also saw the participation from a number of 4 teams, all from the Eastern region of India. The teams were the likes of Bengal, Bihar, Assam and Orissa and all the teams tried their best to enter into the knock out level of the tournament. The two top teams that became successful to do so from the East Zone were the Bengal and Bihar.

The teams of Orissa and Assam played the first of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1961-62 and they played the match at Cuttack from 03-05 December, 1961. The drawn match saw the Assam team earning 5 points and Orissa earning 3 points from it. The Bihar and Assam teams then played against each other in the second match of the East Zone and the match took place at Jamshedpur from 09-11 December, 1961. This match also went in to draw and the Assam and Bihar teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match.

The third of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1961-62 saw a clash between the teams of Orissa and Bengal at Cuttack from 09-11 December, 1961. The Bengal team played wonderfully in the match and beat the Orissa team by a huge margin of an innings and 108 runs. The Bengal team also earned the full 9 points from the match. The Bengal team then played against the Assam team in the next match of the zone at Calcutta from 15-17 December, 1961. The Bengal team earned 6 points and Assam earned 3 points from the drawn match.

There was a battle between the teams of Orissa and Bihar in the fifth of the East Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1961-62 and the match was held at Jamshedpur from 13-15 January, 1962. The match saw the Bihar team winning by a huge margin of 10 wickets and also earning the entire 9 points from the match. The two best teams of the East Zone, Bengal and Bihar clashed with each other at Jamshedpur from 19-21 January, 1962. The Bengal team dominated the Bihar team throughout the match and convincingly beat Bihar by a huge margin of an innings and 176 runs. The Bengal team also earned the entire 9 points from the match.
