Holkar won the drawn Final match, for having a lead in the first innings.

The 19th edition of the Ranji Trophy tournament that is the Ranji Trophy, 1952-53 saw the participation of a large number of 20 teams. The teams included the likes of Assam, Baroda, Bengal, Bihar, Bombay, Delhi, East Punjab, Gujarat, Holkar, Hyderabad, Madras, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mysore, Orissa, Rajputana, Saurashtra, Services, Travancore Cochin and the Uttar Pradesh. All the teams played quite nicely in the tournament and as a result, it became a successful one that attracted the attentions of the cricket enthusiasts. The match between the teams of Travancore Cochin and Mysore that was held at Trivandrum from 08-09 November, 1952, started the tournament. The Mysore team with a margin of an innings and 48 runs won the match.

In the second match of the tournament, the teams of Eastern Punjab and Delhi met each other at Jullundar from 15-18 November, 1952, where the Delhi team won by a margin of 7 wickets. The next match saw the battle between the teams of Gujarat and Baroda at Baroda from 21-24 November, 1952. The match was drawn during the stipulated duration and the match officials declared the Gujarat team as the winner for having a lead over the Baroda team in the first innings. The match of the Ranji Trophy, 1952-53, between the teams of Madras and Hyderabad was held at Madras from 05-08 December, 1952 and the match could not produce a result for any of the teams. The teams of Orissa and Assam met with each other in the next match of the Ranji Trophy, 1952-53 at Cuttack from 06-07 December, 1952. The match saw the Orissa team winning by a huge margin of an innings and 139 runs.

The next match of the Ranji Trophy, 1952-53 was held at Ratlam from 06-08 December, 1952, between the teams of Holkar and Rajputana and the match saw the Holkar team winning by 10 wickets. The teams of Maharashtra and Bombay met with each other in the next match of the tournament at Sholapur from 18-20 December, 1952 and the Maharashtra team won the match by 19 runs. There was a clash between the Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh teams at Nagpur from 19-22 December, 1952, where the Uttar Pradesh team became the winner with a margin of 42 runs. The match between the teams of Delhi and Services took place at New Delhi from 25-28 December 1952 and the drawn match was won by the Services team for having a lead in the first innings. Then the Mysore team played against the Madras team at Bangalore from 27-30 December, 1952 and it became successful to win the match by 9 wickets.

The Bengal and Bihar team clashed with each other at Calcutta in the next match of the Ranji Trophy, 1952-53 from 03-06 January, 1953. The Bengal team as declared as the winner of the drawn match, as it was leading in the first innings. The Bengal team appeared in the next match of the tournament as well and this time, it played against the Orissa team. The match was held at Cuttack from 17-19 January, 1953 and it saw the Bengal team winning by 7 wickets. The Holkar and Uttar Pradesh teams also met with each other during the same time, as they played their match at Indore from 17-18 January, 1953. The match was entirely dominated by the Holkar team and as a result, it got a huge victory of an innings and 328 runs in the match. The teams of Bengal and Services were involved in the next match of the Ranji Trophy, 1952-53 and the match was held at Calcutta from 13-16 February, 1953. The Bengal team won the match with a good margin of 257 runs.

The next match of the Ranji Trophy, 1952-53 involved the teams like Saurashtra and Gujarat that clashed with each other at Rajkot from 14-15 February, 1953. The Gujarat team won the match quite convincingly by an innings and 89 runs. The Bengal and Mysore team locked their horns together in the first Semi-Final match of the tournament at Calcutta from 26 February-01 March, 1953. The Bengal team successfully defeated the Mysore team by a margin of 104 runs in the match to enter into the Final of the tournament. However, the match between the teams of Gujarat and Maharashtra was the last match of the group match of the tournament and it was held at Ahmedabad from 28 February-02 March, 1953. The winner of the match was the Maharashtra team with a margin of 8 wickets. The second Semi-Final match saw a battle between the teams of Holkar and Maharashtra at Indore from 12-16 March, 1953 and the match saw the Holkar team winning by 7 wickets. The Final match was held at Calcutta from 20-24 March, 1953 in between the teams of Bengal and Holkar. As the match was drawn and the Holkar team was leading in the first innings, the match officials decided to declare the Holkar team as the winner of the match as well as the tournament.
