The Services and Railways teams were promoted to the knock out level from this zone.

There were a number of 5 teams participated in the North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 and all the teams were coming from the Western region of India. The teams that played under the zone included the likes of Punjab, Delhi, Services, Jammu & Kashmir and Railways and they played against each other for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone. Getting a chance in the knock out level of the tournament was also another aim of the teams, however, only the Services and Railways teams could do so from the North Zone.

The teams of Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir appeared in the first of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 and they played the match at Patiala from 16-18 January, 1970. The Punjab team played wonderfully in the match and clinched a huge victory of an innings and 164 runs to get a good start in the tournament, by earning 9 points from the match. The next match of the zone saw a clash between the teams of Railways and Jammu & Kashmir and the two teams played against each other at Delhi from 23-25 January, 1970. The winner of the match was the Railways team with a huge margin of 8 wickets and the team also earned 9 points from the match. The third match of the North Zone involved the teams like Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir and the match that was held at Delhi from 27-28 January, 1970 saw the Delhi team winning by an innings and 82 runs. The Delhi team also earned the full 9 points from the match.

The fourth of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 was held at Delhi from 31 January-02 February, 1970 between the teams of Services and Jammu & Kashmir. The match saw the Services team winning by a huge margin of an innings and 171 runs and also earning 8 valuable points from it. The next match of the North Zone saw the teams of Railways and Punjab playing against each other at Delhi from 31 January-02 February, 1970 and the match was drawn during the stipulated duration. The match officials awarded the Railways and Punjab teams 5 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The Railways team then played against the Delhi team in the sixth match of the zone and the match was played at Delhi from 05-07 February, 1970. The drawn match saw the Railways and Delhi teams earning 5 and 3 points, respectively from it.

There was a clash between the teams of Services and Delhi in the seventh of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 and the match was held at Delhi from 10-12 February, 1970. The Services and Delhi teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match, as it remained drawn during the stipulated duration. The Delhi team appeared in the next match of the zone also and this time, it played against the Punjab team at Jullundur from 15-17 February, 1970. The Delhi team played well in the closely contested match and eventually became successful to clinch a victory by a narrow margin of only 2 wickets to earn 8 points from it. Then the teams of Services and Railways clashed with each other in the next match of the zone at Delhi from 15-17 February, 1970. The drawn match saw the Railways earning 5 points and Services earning 3 points from it. The last of the North Zone league matches in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 involved the teams like Punjab and Services and the match took place at Jullundar form 20-22 February 1970. The match was also drawn during the stipulated duration and the Services and Punjab teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match.
