None of the teams could dethrone Bombay in this edition.

The number of participating teams in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 was unchanged from the previous editions and the 23 teams that participated in the previous year`s tournament took part in this year`s also. The teams were coming from all the parts of India and they competed in the tournament, being divided into five different zones, as par the rules and regulations of the tournament. The participating teams in the tournament included the likes of Andhra, Assam, Baroda, Bengal, Bihar, Bombay, Delhi, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, Mysore, Orissa, Punjab, Railways, Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Services, Uttar Pradesh and the Vidarbha.

Ranji Trophy 1969-70 Central Zone League Matches: The Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 saw the participation of a number of 4 teams, including the likes of Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. All the teams were from the Central region of India and they fought hard with each other for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone and also to get a chance for playing in the knock out level of the tournament. The Rajasthan and Vidarbha teams eventually became able to get this target and they played against the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament.

Ranji Trophy 1969-70 East Zone League Matches: The East Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 was comprised of a number of 4 teams, including the likes of Orissa, Assam, Bengal and Bihar. The teams were coming from the Eastern region of India and they played against each other first in the zonal stage and then the best two teams of the zone went on to the knock out level. The teams played against the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament, for the championship title.

Ranji Trophy 1969-70 North Zone League Matches: There were a number of 5 teams participated in the North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 and all the teams were coming from the Western region of India. The teams that played under the zone included the likes of Punjab, Delhi, Services, Jammu & Kashmir and Railways and they played against each other for becoming one of the top two teams in the zone. Getting a chance in the knock out level of the tournament was also another aim of the teams, however, only the Services and Railways teams could do so from the North Zone.

Ranji Trophy 1969-70 South Zone League Matches: The South Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 was comprised of a number of 5 teams, including the likes of Kerala, Madras, Mysore, Hyderabad and Andhra. The teams were representing the Southern region of India in the tournament and they played against each other for securing a birth in the knock out level of the tournament. The teams like Mysore and Hyderabad became the top two teams in the zone and as a result, they got a promotion into the knock out level of the tournament.

Ranji Trophy 1969-70 West Zone League Matches: A number of 5 teams took part under the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70 and all of the teams were coming from the Western part of India. The teams that competed against each other in the West Zone included the likes of Bombay, Saurashtra, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Baroda. They tried their best to become one of the toppers in the zone and also to get a chance to compete with the top teams of the other zones in the knock out level of the tournament. The Bombay and Baroda teams eventually became successful to do so from the zone.

Ranji Trophy 1969-70 Knock out Matches: In the knock out matches of the Ranji Trophy, 1969-70, there was a participation of all the best teams from the five zones of the tournament. After becoming the toppers in their respective zones, the teams clashed with each other in the knock out level for becoming the best among all and for winning the title of the tournament. However, none of the teams could dethrone the Bombay team in this edition also and the Bombay team eventually became the winner of the championship, yet again.
