Since launching in December 2004, Disney Channel and Toon Disney have consistently performed as leading networks for kids 4-14 in Cable & Satellite (C&S) programming across India. Disney reaches more than 107 million television homes in India through a program block on the terrestrial network and Disney channel and Toon Disney/ Jetix reaches approximately 30 million homes on cable and satellite in India and together rank number two in the market. Toon Disney is number one in south India.
Toon Disney, a 24-hour basic cable channel, is the home of Disney animation and live action heroes - including the Power Rangers and Spiderman. JETIX, an action adventure-programming block, is the channel`s driver targeting kids aged 4-14. This channel has used some different ways to connect with the kids. Like the channel has launched what it claims to be `the biggest ever contest for kids`. This contest, called `Jetix Power Your Rangers`, has the Power Rangers seeking help from the kids.
Programming is available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English. Jetix is the action and adventure zone on Toon Disney, which showcases the Power Rangers series. The channel has content available for one year with over 1,800 episodes dubbed in Tamil. A large part of the Toon Disney programming line-up features shows centred on the cartoon icons such as Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy.
Toon Disney is aimed at younger kids and skewed towards boys with its channel-driving Jetix block, which airs action programmes like Power Rangers. Disney Channel, meanwhile is focused on tweeners and skewed towards girls with its driving shows, Lizzie McGuire and That`s So Raven. It`s the best of Disney from Mickey Mouse and Friends to The Legend of Tarzan. But the driver is action block Jetix with Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk and Power Rangers.
