
Pogo is a cable and satellite television channel, under Time Warner for India. It primarily shows animated programming and some Live-Action shows. Pogo has now become a family entertainer through the Cable television. It has programs like Boohbah, Barney and Friends, Miffy and Friends, Franny`s Feet and Tweenies specifically aimed at the kids. Some of its most popular shows include MAD, FAQ, Noddy, Chhota Bheem etc.
History of Pogo
Pogo channel was launched on 1st January 2004, with the aim of broadcasting animation and live-action shows. The family entertainment channel was based in Mumbai,
Maharashtra.
Cartoon Network and Pogo, India`s top two kids television networks, together have 80 % channel share. Pogo launched two brand new Indian productions, M.A.D, an acronym for Music, Art and Dance, at 11.30 am on April 24, and Bam Bam Bam Gir Pade Hum premiering in June. Moreover, some thrilling movies have also been premiered, like The Harry Potter Series. Comedies and drama shows such as Around the Twist that cater to older kids are also telecast.
Although launched specifically as a children`s channel, but like its parent channel, Cartoon Network, it has converted into a family entertainment channel. Kids ranging between the ages 3+ to young adults consist of its primary target audience. Although, initially only available in India, now it is also available in Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal and Maldives. In Bangladesh and Pakistan, Pogo is available on a three-hour slot on Cartoon Network. The channel airs in multiple languages in India including English, Hindi and in Telugu.
Programmes of Pogo
The channel telecasts numerous popular live action shows as well as animated shows. Exclusive shows for Pogo, under the brand name Pogo Originals, are also telecast. A Pogo original production by Turner, M.A.D, an acronym for The Music Art and Dance show, is the No. 1 Do-it-yourself show in India. `Chhota Bheem`, another super hit 2D animated series, is also aired on Pogo. Mumbai. FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) featuring Prateek and his crash-test-dummy robot named Crash, is a science based program also featured on Pogo. Pogo also broadcasts many popular animated and live action movies, including Hindi movies, under the slot name Lights! Camera! POGO. Earlier, the channel had broadcast documentaries such as Walking with the Dinosaurs, Walking with Beasts, and also movies like Harry Potter series, targeted at the entire family audience.
Annually it has an award ceremony for kids called the Pogo Amazing Kids Choice Award, which are held in various parts of India. Children with nurtured talent are nominated for many categories and celebrities, like
Hrithik Roshan and
Priyanka Chopra, have also attended on a few occasions.
Tiny TV, another slot, that used to air only kids shows was very popular, but does not exist today. It featured popular shows like Oswald, Noddy, Kipper the dog, Pingu, etc.
