T. Hombaiah, Kannad Theatre Artist
T. Hombaiah was the best-known shadow-theatre artist of Gombeyata.

T. Hombaiah was a popular shadow theatre artist born in 1900. T. Hombaiah showed his artistry in Gombeyata or Kannada puppetry. He belonged to the nomadic Killekyata tribe of traditional puppeteers and usually resided at Koterayana Koppalu, near Nagamangala in Mandya district, Karnataka. T. Hombaiah claimed descent from the family that served the Maratha ruler, Shivaji. T. Hombaiah traveled during the harvest season, performing with his leather puppets. His repertoire contained over a hundred plays based on the Mahabharata and Ramayana. T. Hombaiah`s expertise in musical accompaniment also earned him recognition.
