Ranji Trophy, 1959-60, West Zone League Matches
Bombay and Baroda were the most powerful teams in the West Zone.

There were a number of 5 teams that participated under the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60. All the teams were from the Western India, according to the rules of the tournament and the teams included the likes o0f Maharashtra, Bombay, Gujarat, Baroda and Saurashtra. All the teams played well in the zonal stage; however, the teams like Bombay and Baroda eventually became successful to enter into the knock out level of the tournament from the West Zone.

The competition among the teams of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 started with the match between the teams of Maharashtra and Baroda that played against each other at Poona from 21-23 November, 1959. The drawn match saw the Maharashtra team getting 6 points and Baroda team earning 3 points from it. The second match of the zone involved the teams of Gujarat and Bombay and the teams clashed with each other at Ahmedabad from 22-23 November, 1959. The champions of the previous edition of the tournament, Bombay played extraordinarily in the match to earn the entire 9 points by defeating Gujarat by an innings and 75 ruins. The Bombay team then played against the Maharashtra team in the next match at Sholapur from 04-06 December, 1959, where it won by 10 wickets to earn the full 9 points from it.

The fourth match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 saw a clash between the teams of Saurashtra and Baroda and the teams played the match at Rajkot from 05 December, 1959. The Baroda team earned 8 valuable points from the match, as the Saurashtra team conceded match. The Saurashtra team played against the Gujarat team in the next match of the zone at Rajkot from 12-14 December, 1959. The match officials declared the match as drawn one. The Saurashtra team was a part of the next match of the zone also, as it played against the Bombay team at Bombay from 06-07 February, 1960. The Bombay team continued its good form in this match also and won it by an innings and 207 runs to earn the full 9 points from it.

After the Bombay-Saurashtra match, the teams of Baroda and Gujarat met with each other in the next match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 at Baroda from 06-08 February, 1960. The Baroda team earned the entire 9 points from the match by winning it with a huge margin of an innings and 30 runs. The eighth match of the West Zone involved the teams of Maharashtra and Saurashtra and the match took place at Poona from 11-13 February, 1960. The match saw the Maharashtra team winning by 6 wickets and earning the full 9 points from it. Then, the two most powerful teams of the West Zone, Bombay and Baroda locked their horns together in the next match at Baroda from 13-15 February, 1960. The match officials declared the match as a drawn one. The last match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 was played between the teams of Gujarat and Maharashtra and it was held at Ahmedabad from 20-22 February, 1960. The Maharashtra team won the match by 10 wickets and earned the full 9 points from the match.
