In this match Bombay won the title for the second consecutive time.

The Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 was the 26th edition of the tournament and the edition saw the participation of then highest number of teams in the history of the tournament. There were a large number of 24 teams took part in the tournament from all over India. The teams were divided into five different zones in accordance to the region from where they were coming. The teams that played in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 included the likes of Andhra, Assam, Baroda, Bengal, Bihar, Bombay, Delhi, Eastern Punjab, Gujarat, Hyderabad, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Madras, Mysore, Orissa, Railways, Rajasthan, Saurashtra, Southern Punjab, Services, Uttar Pradesh and the Vidarbha.

Ranji Trophy Central Zone League Matches: There were a number of 4 teams played under the Central Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 and each of the teams played with the other once in the league stage. The top two teams of the Zone became successful to enter the knock out level of the tournament. The teams that participated in the Central Zone in this tournament included the likes of Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The teams like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan became the top two teams of the Central Zone and they went into the knock out level.

Ranji Trophy East Zone League Matches: The East Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 saw some exciting matches and tough competition between the four teams that were playing under the Zone. The teams that came from the Eastern India to play in the East Zone of the Ranji Trophy included the likes of Bengal, Assam, Orissa and Bihar and the Bengal and Bihar teams once again proved them to be better than the other teams in the zone.

Ranji Trophy North Zone League Matches: The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 saw a tough competition between 6 teams, all from the Northern region of India. The non-state teams like Services and Railways competed in the tournament under the North Zone and the other teams in the Zone included the likes of Delhi, East Punjab, Southern Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir. The teams like Delhi and Services played extremely well in the zonal level and entered into the knock out level of the tournament from the North Zone.

Ranji Trophy South Zone League Matches: The South Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 comprised a number of 5 teams that came from the Southern part of India. The teams included the likes of Madras, Mysore, Hyderabad, Kerala and Andhra and all of them gave heir best efforts to become one of the top two teams of the South Zone. However, the teams like Hyderabad and Mysore became successful to do so and they went into the knock level of the tournament.

Ranji Trophy West Zone League Matches: There were a number of 5 teams that participated under the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60. All the teams were from the Western India, according to the rules of the tournament and the teams included the likes o0f Maharashtra, Bombay, Gujarat, Baroda and Saurashtra. All the teams played well in the zonal stage; however, the teams like Bombay and Baroda eventually became successful to enter into the knock out level of the tournament from the West Zone.

Ranji Trophy Knock out Matches: The top two teams from each of the five zones successfully enter into the knock out level of the Ranji Trophy, 1959-60 to compete with each other for the championship title. The teams like Rajasthan, Bihar, Mysore, Bengal, Services and Bombay were among the most notable teams of the knock out level. However, the champion of the previous edition, Bombay team, eventually won the title.
