The eventual champion, Bombay team came from this Zone.

There were a number of 5 teams included in the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 and all the teams were from the Western region of India. The teams that were listed under the West Zone included the likes of Gujarat, Baroda, Bombay, Maharashtra and Saurashtra. The teams like Bombay and Baroda played wonderfully in the league matches and became successful to enter into the knock out level of the tournament from the West Zone.

The match between the teams of Gujarat and Baroda was the first league match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 and the match was held at Ahmedabad from 18-20 November, 1958. The Baroda team played very well in the match and earned the full 9 points by winning it with a margin of 10 wickets. In the next match of the Zone, the teams of Bombay and Gujarat clashed with each other at Bombay from 05-06 December, 1958. The Bombay team played extremely well in the match and won it by a huge margin of an innings and 219 runs. The Bombay team also earned the entire 9 points from the match. The third match of the West Zone saw a battle between the teams of Baroda and Maharashtra at Baroda from 06-08 December, 1958. The match was drawn during its stipulated duration and the match officials awarded the Baroda and Maharashtra teams 6 and 3 points, respectively for the match.

The teams of Saurashtra and Maharashtra met with each other for the fourth match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 and the math took place at Rajkot from 12-14 December, 1958. The drawn match saw the Saurashtra team earning 5 points and Maharashtra team earning 3 points from it. Then the two teams of Maharashtra and Bombay then clashed with each other at Poona from 25-27 December, 1958 and this match was also a drawn one. The Bombay team earned 6 points and Maharashtra earned 3 points from the match. The teams of Baroda and Saurashtra then played against each other at Baroda from 25-27 December, 1958. The Baroda team played nicely in the match to clinch a victory of an innings and 48 runs and also to earn the entire 9 points from it.

The seventh league match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 was played between the teams of Gujarat and Saurashtra at Ahmedabad from 29-31 December, 1958. The match saw the Saurashtra team winning by a huge margin of 9 wickets. The teams of Bombay and Baroda played against each other in the next match of the West Zone at Bombay from 09-11 January, 1959. The drawn match earned the Bombay team 5 points and the Baroda team also earned 3 points from the match. The ninth match of the West Zone in the tournament saw a clash between the teams of Maharashtra and Gujarat at Poona from 10-12 January, 1959. The match went on to draw and the match officials awarded the Maharashtra and Gujarat teams 6 and 3 points, respectively for the match. The last league match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 was played between the teams of Bombay and Saurashtra at Jamnagar from 15-17 January, 1959. Bombay played well in this match also and clinched a victory of 181 runs to earn the full 9 points from the match.
