In this Ranji trophy match Delhi and Services were the toppers of the North Zone.

The North Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 was comprised of a number of 5 teams including the teams like Eastern Punjab, Services, Delhi, Patiala and Railways. Though the teams like Services and Railways were not from any particular state or region, they were included in the North Zone of the tournament. The teams like Delhi and Services played wonderfully in the league matches and they also reached the knock out level from the East Zone.

The first league match of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 was played between the teams of Eastern Punjab and Railways at Jullundar from 19-21 December, 1958. The match was drawn during its stipulated duration and the match officials awarded 6 points to the Railways team and 3 points to the Eastern Punjab team. The next match saw the Services and Patiala teams clashing together at Delhi from 23-25 December, 1958 and the Services team won the match by a huge margin of an innings and 61 runs. The team also earned the entire 9 points from the match. In the next match, the Delhi and Eastern Punjab teams clashed with each other at Delhi from 23-25 December, 1958 and the match saw the Delhi team winning by 10 wickets. The Delhi team also earned valuable 8 points from the match.

In the fourth league match of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 saw a clash between the teams of Services and Eastern Punjab and the match was held at Delhi from 27-29 December, 1958. The Services team won the match by an innings and 11 runs and also earned the entire 9 points from it. The next match featured the teams of Delhi and Railways at Delhi from 27-29 December, 1958. As the match was drawn during its specified duration, the Railways team earned 5 and the Delhi team earned 3 points from the match. The teams of Patiala and Eastern Punjab clashed with each other in the next match of the East Zone, at Patiala from 31 December, 1958 - 02 January, 1959. The match was drawn and the Eastern Punjab and Patiala teams got 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match.

In the seventh league match of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59, the teams of Delhi and Patiala met with each other at Delhi from 05-07 January, 1959. The Delhi team with a margin of 148 runs won the match and as a result, the team became successful to earn 8 points from the match. Then, the Deli team played against the Services team at Delhi from 09-11 January, 1959, where it was defeated by the Services team by 10 wickets. The Services team earned 8 valuable points from the match. The Services team appeared in the next match of the Zone also and this time, it played against the Railways team at Delhi from 13-15 January, 1959. The Services team continued its wonderful form in this match also and won it by a huge margin of an innings and 21 runs. The last league match of the North Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1958-59 saw a battle between the teams of Railways and Patiala at Patiala from 18-19 January, 1959. The Railways team played very well in the match and won it by an innings and 60 runs, to earn the entire 9 points from the match.
