The teams from the Western India were mainly considered by the organisers to be a part of the West Zone of the Ranji Trophy, 1957-58. The organizers included a number of 5 teams in the Zone and the teams were the likes of Bombay, Baroda, Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Gujarat. The Bombay and Baroda were undoubtedly the best teams in this Zone and the two teams eventually got into the knock out level of the tournament.

The league matches of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1957-58, started with the match between the teams of Maharashtra and Saurashtra that was held at Poona from 01-03 December, 1957. The Maharashtra team won the match by an innings and 148 runs and earned the total 9 points from the match. The teams of Bombay and Gujarat met with each other in the next match of the West Zone at Khadakvasla from 02-04 December, 1957. The match was drawn during its stipulated duration and the Bombay and Gujarat teams earned 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match. The third league match of the West Zone was held at Poona from 06-08 December, 1957, between the teams of Gujarat and Saurashtra. In the fourth league match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1957-58, there was a clash between the teams of Maharashtra and Baroda at Ahmedabad from 07-09 December, 1957. The match was drawn during its stipulated duration and the Baroda and Maharashtra teams earned 6 and 3 points, respectively from the match. The next match of the West Zone involved the teams like Bombay and Saurashtra and the match was held at Poona from 10-12 December, 1957. There was a clash between the teams of Baroda and Gujarat in the next match of the West Zone and the match was held at Sangli from 13-15 December, 1957.

The seventh league match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1957-58 saw a battle between the teams of Maharashtra and Bombay at Poona from 14-16 December, 1957. The drawn match saw the Bombay team earning 6 points and Maharashtra earning 3 points. The teams of Baroda and Saurashtra then met with each other at Khadakvasla from 17-18 December, 1957. The Baroda team played wonderfully to win the match by a huge margin of an innings and 112 runs, and earned the entire 9 points from it. The Maharashtra team then played against the Gujarat team at Poona from 20-22 December, 1957 and the match was a drawn one. The Maharashtra and Gujarat teams earned 6 and 3 points, respectively from the match. The last league match of the West Zone in the Ranji Trophy, 1957-58 involved the teams of Baroda and Bombay and the match was held at Sholapur from 21-23 December 1957. The match was also a drawn one and the Baroda and Bombay teams won 5 and 3 points, respectively from the match.
