The number of participating teams was decreased due to World War II.

In the Ranji Trophy, 1942-43, there was confusion about the success or the possibility of completing the championship in time, as the World War II was started by that time. However, all the confusions were gone when a number of 13 teams gave their consents to take part in the tournament. Though the number was a bit decreased in comparison to the previous years, it was not very low.
