Mahayajnas, Indian RitualMahayajnas is a ritual of great sacrifice derived from the practice of Vedic times. Yajnas were performed to please the Gods.

In the Hindu mythology it is said that Mahayajnas are the Pancha Mahayajnas or the "Five Great Yajnas." Mahayajnas are of five types and they are, Brahmayajna, sacred study; Pitriyajna, libations to the manes; Devayajna, burnt offerings to the gods; Baliyajna, offerings to all creatures and Uriyajna, hospitality.
