
The vast country of India has Cricket as its most famous sport and the game is played in almost all parts of the country. The Indian people play the game in both organised and unorganised manner. They play the game in an organised manner, while representing various teams in different tournaments. Before going on to represent the State or National Cricket team, most of the Indian cricketers represent various Indian Cricket clubs during their initial period. The Indian Cricket clubs have been playing a vital role in bringing up new cricketers and also in providing them with a chance to get into competitive situation. As there is no All India Club cup championship or as such organised in India, most of the Indian Cricket clubs mainly remain engaged with the local leagues.
Almost all the major cricket playing states in India have their own cricket leagues and the local leagues see the participation of a large number of Cricket clubs. Most of the Indian Cricket clubs form their teams from the cricketers that they select from different parts of their respective state. In this way, they are actually giving a great chance to the young cricketers to get noticed by performing well in the league matches. Some of the major Indian Cricket clubs also hire cricketers from other states, even from other countries to get success in the local league or tournaments.
The inception of two huge Twenty20 tournaments in India in the recent years have paved the way for establishment of a number of new Indian Cricket clubs. The tournaments are the Indian Cricket League (ICL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL), where more than 20 professional clubs compete with each other for winning the trophy. All these clubs are mainly engaged in the Twenty20 format of Cricket and they are also being run and managed by various corporate houses, or celebrities from different parts of the society. The ICL has a total of 9 participating teams, named as the Chandigarh Lions, Chennai Superstars, Delhi Giants, Hyderabad Heroes, Royal Bengal Tigers, Mumbai Champs, Lahore Badshahs, Ahmedabad Rockets, Dhaka Warriors, etc. The teams mainly represent various major States or Cities of India and other countries and have also been named after their respective cities.
On the other hand, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is being run and managed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and it also sees the participation of a number of clubs. The IPL is also a tournament of the Twenty20 format of Cricket and the Indian Cricket clubs participating in the IPL have also been named after various major cities of India. They are being run and managed by different corporate houses or celebrities from different parts of the society. The participating teams in IPL include the Mumbai Indians, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers, the Chennai Super Kings, the Delhi Daredevils, the Kings XI Punjab, the Kolkata Knight Riders, and the Rajasthan Royals.
