
The famous saint in India, Neem Karoli Baba was born in a small agriculturist village named Akbarpur in the Central India. His father`s name was Lakshmi Narayan Sharma and he was called as Maharajji, by most of his devotees. He left his village Akbarpur at the age of only 10 years and he went to Bavasia in Gujarat. After reaching in Gujarat, Neem Karoli Baba lived by a little temple and a woman pujari cared him there. There is a belief among his descendants that he attained the knowledge of God and the very young age of 17 years.
Neem Karoli Baba was quite famous among the common people for having a deep interest in social work and he was also quite concerned about the sufferings of the poor. He lend his valuable advices to a large number of people and a lot of people did come to him seeking spiritual peace and also for seeing him perform miracle. He influenced both the American and Indian societies, with his thoughts.
An American saint named Baba Ram Das, wrote some books in the later half of the 1960`s and the books depicted the stories of Neem Karoli Baba. Because the book became very popular and the storied of Neem Karoli Baba spread among the people, hundreds of western people went to have Maharaj`s darshan. Maharajji had the credit of establishing a huge number of at least 108 temples during his lifetime, before passing away in the year 1973.
