Born in the year of 1595, the son of Guru Arjun Dev, Guru Hargobind Ji, was a faithful son and he organized an army, following the order of his father. After taking the responsibilities of a Guru of the Sikh community, Guru Hargobind Ji expressed the opinion that he should wear two swords, one representing his spiritual leadership and other his temporal and political leadership. Soon after doing so, he completed the construction of another building in front of The Amritsar temple, and named the new building as the `Akal Takht` (God`s throne) as the seat of temporal power.
Among the various activities that Guru Hargobind Ji has done during his reign, was that he advised every Sikh to keep a sword and maintain a horse with them always. However, all these activities and proclamations were seen as a challenge to the Mughal Empire and the Guru Hargobind Ji was imprisoned in the Gwalior fort, following a long battle with the Mughal army. As a Guru, Guru Hargobind Ji sponsored the cause of the downtrodden Hindus and he also provided leadership to the oppressed people of Punjab. He himself controlled both the religious centre and the oral centre at Amritsar and in fact, it was him, who laid the secure and clear foundation of the Sikh religion.
