Around Badrinath

Badrinath has vivid holy places of celestial importance that has bearings of the Hindu Gods and Goddesses. Each and every place in Badrinath is a place of pilgrimage because Gods have appeared here and blessed this paradise with exquisite fantasies. Badrinath is a pilgrimage centre among the pilgrim centre of Hindus. Millions of devotees and pilgrims accumulate in this holy land.

Tapta Kund
Tapta Kund is a natural hot water spring situated between the holy shrine of Badrinath and Alaknanda River. It is said that Tapta Kund is the dwelling place of Lord Agni. Before entering the Badrinath temple it has become a traditional practice to take a dip into the Tapta Kund. The devotees believe that bathing into this sacred Kund will impart pureness into their minds and soul.

Panch Shilas
There are five Shilas or block of stones which are sheltered around the Tapta Kund. The five Shilas are namely Narad Shila, Narsingh Shila, Varaha Shila, Garur Shila and Markandey Shila. Each of this Shila has its own mythological importance and a different history.

Panch Dhara- the five streams
The Dhara known as the Prahlad, Kurma, Urvasi, Bhrigu and Indradharas are the Panch Dharas which are famous in Badripuri. These five streams originate from the Neelkanth, Nar and Narain peaks. The water of each and every stream is different from the other in terms of temperature. The Prahlad Dhara has warm water whereas the Kurma Dhara has extremely cold water. Flowing from the Neelkanth range, the Urvasi Dhara forms the right arm of the Rishi Ganga. Flowing beyond the large number of caves the Bhrigu Dhara is located at a distance of about one kilometer from Badripuri. The most beautiful amidst the five Dharas is the Indra Dhara that slides majestically down the Narayan Parbat rocks. Indra Dhara is located nearly at a distance of 1.5km to the North of Badripuri.

The Sesh Netra
Sesh Netra is located 1.5kms far from Badrinath and there is a boulder having the impression of the Sesh Nag`s eye that is a natural creation and not credited to the human beings. Sesh Netra is located at Badrinath in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The temple is dedicated to the serpent God Sesh Nag. Between the two small lotus filled lakes on the opposite bank of river Alaknanda, it looks striking and awe-inspiring. It is conceived through a popular legend that he sits there waiting for Narayan so that he could accompany his reincarnation.

Neelkanth peak
Neelkanth peak is also renowned as the `Garhwal Queen`; soaring high above the Badrinath temple. Neelkanth peak is a lofty mountain that is always covered by white glittering sheets of snow. It is massive form of Lord Badrivishal. Neelkanth peak symbolizes purity of this divine land. No history of central Garhwal would be complete without a detailed mention of the Neelkanth peak. Neelkanth peak`s views during early morning are soothing and enchanting to the eyes, while normally during the afternoon they are unsettled.
