Vastu Shastra advocates certain rules that will be quite useful in the construction of the study rooms. These are as follows:-
The study room should always be on the west side, leaving the south-west and the north-west corners. At this place one will receive get the good effect of Budh or Mercury, Guru (Jupiter), Chandra(Moon) and Shukra (Venus). Mercury helps in increasing intelligence. Jupiter gives a boost to ambition and curiosity. Moon helps in conceiving new thoughts and ideas and Venus increases talent. The only way to accumulate wealth is from oratory and writing.
In the study rooms one should always sit facing the east or the north directions.
The doors of study rooms should be two shuttered and in the north-east, the north or the west. Windows will be useful in the east, west and the north.
Toilets should not be there in the study room. Bathrooms are, however, useful.
The colour of the walls and tiles should be sky blue, cream, light green or white.
The racks for keeping books in the study room should not made be in the north-west or the south-west corners. Books in the north-west corner are likely to be stolen or lost. Books in the south-west corners are rarely used. Instead the books should be divided into two small almirahs in the east and the north directions or it can also be in the west.
There is no harm in leaving a shrine or water pot in the north-east corner of the room. The height of the study room should be the same as that of other rooms.
If we are not going to sleep in the study room and use it only for meditation or spiritual reading, the pyramidal shape of this room gives fantastic benefits.
