Ghadr Movement , India

On November 1913, an intellectual giant, Hardayal established the Ghadr party at Sanfransisco in the U.S.A. Ram Chandra and Barkatulla supported Hardayal in establishing Ghadr party. The Party published a weekly journal, the Ghadr. The point that has been highlighted with the hands of the party was that the Indians were not respected in the world because of their dependence. This resulted into proceedings against Hardayal with the demand to leave U.S.A.

Hardayal and other Indian in abroad moved to Germany with the outbreak of World War I and established Independence committee at Berlin. The committee was set up to help the revolutionaries in India with explosives, arms etc. their main aim was to liberate their motherland. The komagata Maru case blazed the fire within Punjab. Baba Gurdit Singh with 351 Sikhs and 21 Punjabi Muslims chartered a Japanese ship Komagata Maru for Vancouver. But the Canadian authority did not give the permission to land the ship and it was believed that British government influenced the Canadian authority to do so. At that time Punjab was undergoing through worse situations. Political dacoities in a large scale took place in the Jullundar, Amritsar, Ludhiana districts. The Lahore Conspiracy case brought out the fact that Punjab had come `within an ace of widespread bloodshed`.

To meet the innovatory activities, the government of India launched many acts like, The Prevention of Seditious Meetings Act 91907); The Explosive Substances Act (1908); The Indian Criminal Law Amendment Act (1908); The Newspaper (Incitement to Offences) Act, 1908, The Press Act of 1910 and The Obnoxious multi-fanged Defence of India Rules, 1915.

With the end of World War I, the government released all the political prisoners who were arrested under the Defence of India Act. After that, Gandhiji`s rise on the national scene through non-violent movements halted the pace of violent revolutionary activities.
