| Mahavirji Fair is a Jain fair where once upon a time the pilgrims from the entire subcontinent visited the shrine to worship and seek the blessings of the Jain Tirthankara.
The statue of the Mahavir Swami is washed early in the morning and the ritual called
Prakshalan. A Puja follows and then the evening aarti. The festivities reach the peak when the idol is carried to the bank of river Gambhiri accompanied by a splendid procession for the Kalash Abhishek. Two bullocks are used to pull the chariot in which the idol is kept.
According to legends the statue of the Jain saint was discovered by a cowherd. Sri Mahavirji festival is celebrated to mark this day. The grand fair complements the celebrations. After following the rituals the time arrives for enjoying in Mahavirji Fair, Rajasthan. This fair largely caters to the tastes and likings of the Jains. Hence it is a good place for observing the lifestyle of the Jains. Indian fairs are conspicuous for their vibrancy. Mahavirji Fair is no different. Rajasthani handicrafts, clothes and utensils are easily available here. Images and statues of Lord Mahavir are widely sold in the fair. Jains are also known for sweet dishes. So at the fairground the travelers can experiment with their sweet tooth by trying out the new sweets.
