Jaigarh Fort, Jaipur , Rajasthan

Jaigarh Fort is located atop `Cheel ka Teela` or the Hill of Eagles. The name Jaigarh means `Victory Fort`. This fort is situated 15 kilometers away from the city of Jaipur. It is one of the most beautiful forts in the Indian sub continent. This imposing building was the biggest strength of Amer. This defence of Amer proved to be invincible for enemies. At the foothill of this fort the Amber Fort is located. According to popular belief these two structures were once connected with a well-guarded passage.

The massive structure has an old world charm that can win over anyone. Most of the structures in the fort have a medieval feel. Palaces, granary, places for keeping canons, temples and a tall tower are worth checking out. But the show stealer is the massive canon on wheels named Jaivana. This cannon is considered is the largest canon in the world. Besides this there are several water channels in Jaigarh Fort, which were a part of rainwater harvesting system. There are also 3 underground tanks. Amongst these the largest one can store upto 60, 00,000 gallons of water.

The main entrance of the fort is called the Dungar Darwaza. From this spot a picturesque view of the neighboring area is available. Unlike the other forts of Rajasthan the Jaigarh Fort has been simply built. Another important attraction here is Shubhat Niwas or the Meeting hall of Warriors.

There is museum within the premises of the fort. It displays an exclusive collection of portraits of erstwhile kings, coins, puppets and several other buildings. The armory here comprise of, shields, guns, muskets and even a 50 kg cannon ball.
