It is estimated that more that 5 lakh devotees visit Ajmer on this day to pay respect to him. And it is not only Muslims who visit the dargah. The doors of the mosque are open to all communities. This event takes place during the first 6 days of Rajab (according to the Islamic calendar).
The pilgrims who visit the mosque offer chadar made of flowers. Offerings in the form of rose, jasmine, perfumes, sandalwood paste and incense stick. Such offerings render the surrounding with sweet fragrance and instill an atmosphere of devotion. These offerings are called nazrana. Other gifts that are dedicated to the tomb are the ghilaph and neema. The devotees on their heads carry these offerings.
Another interesting feature of Garib Nawaz Urs is the devotional song. This is called qawwali. Professional singers lend their voices at this event. This too is a huge attraction for the visitors in Ajmer, Rajasthan.
